Michael Lawrence, the Director and DOP on the Oakley commercial, is a well established and experienced filmmaker. Having worked with internationally recognized brands such as Nike, Reebok, Google and Oakley, Lawrence is an internationally accredited and respected director.
Lawrence’s work explores a visual realm, whereby a story is constructed using a visual language that taps into the heart and minds of his viewers. Every shot is calculated and necessary in the amalgamation of frames and sequences that construct his story. His work has a way of looking hyper-naturalist and realist, veering away from fantasy it appears close enough to our reality that the characters in the commercial become relatable. Lawrence’s commercials feel like they come from more of an authentic seed of creation.
Oakley, Its Okay
This commercial included some particularly exciting locations, with challenging unit moves.
Tracking on a hand held rig, our athlete on set skated with style and energy.
Moving forward, we used a libra head on the tracking vehicle we used to film the cyclists scene.
This shot had a strong technical element, our second camera was tracking the cyclists with a drone.
Our final shoot location took place on the beach and in the water. Here, we stationed our camera operator in the water. Hopping on and off the jet ski, our operator and surfers moved across the back line, chasing surf under the sunset.
Production Service for Wanda Paris and AKQA Agency, Oakley it’s Okay, came together as a powerful and visually exciting and adventurous commercial. This job required problem solving and hands on experience behind the camera, all of which was accommodated for amongst our local crew and production team.
